The Story of Puruthana


The story of Puruthana is not limited to the present day. It is a story of centuries of labor, patience, and craftsmanship in these lands, in Bayburt...

According to Mahmut Recai Purutoğlu, this story dates back to the Seljuk period. It is a nine-century journey. A legacy passed down from grandfather to grandson, carried not so much by written documents as by word of mouth, by labor, and by the soil.

"I," says Purutoğlu, "am the last representative of this institution living in Bayburt."

The word "purut" means a pot or jar made of clay in dictionaries. "Puruthane" refers to the place where these vessels are produced, i.e., the pottery workshop.

Project Story
